ProX ATV MX – Unadilla – Round 9

By | AMA | No Comments

NEW BERLIN, N.Y. (July 16, 2016) – The 2016 ProX ATV Motocross National Championship (ATVMX) presented by CST Tires, an AMA National Championship, continued today in the Empire State with the Unadilla ATV National.  Wienen Motorsports/Yamaha/Maxxis/SSi Decals/Walsh Racecraft/FLY Racing’s Chad Wienen posted a dominate 2-1 moto tally at the ninth round of the season to earn his fourth AMA Pro ATV victory of the season and continue his quest for his fifth straight national title.

The iconic Unadilla circuit in Central New York was graced with picture-perfect weather, and for the sixth time Joel Hetrick kicked off the day by earning the ATVriders.com Top Qualifier Award. The speed Hetrick showed early easily carried into the motos, where he was able to take advantage of having the first gate pick.

When Moto 1 got underway, Jeffrey Rastrelli edged out the rest of the field to score his first ever SSI Decals Holeshot Award. With a clean track in front of him Rastrelli quickly set the pace. It would not take long for Rastrelli to feel the pressure from Hetrick and Wienen Motorsports/Yamaha/Maxxis/SSi Decals/Walsh Racecraft/FLY Racing-backed Chad Wienen where mere seconds separated the riders as they crossed the finish line for the first compete lap.

The three continued riding wheel-to-wheel when with only two laps to go it was an all-out drag race through the mechanics area with Hetrick and Rastrelli side-by-side. Rastrelli held onto first, but just a few turns later Hetrick made the pass for the lead.

Once the white flag was waving, Wienen put on a last minute charge with the Unadilla fans cheering him on to make the pass for second with Rastrelli crossing the line in third.  David Haagsma rode a consistent race finishing in fourth and Maxxis/FLY Racing/Baldwin Motorsports’ John Natalie rounded out the top five.

Moto 2 resulted in a considerably better start for Wienen where he grabbed the SSI Decals Holeshot Award with Root River Racing/Motowoz Shocks/JB Racing/Amped Apparel/Hoosier Tires’ Sam Rowe in tow right behind him. Natalie was also in the mix where he looked to fend off Hetrick and Rastrelli who were eager to move up in the pack.

The ProX ATVMX series moves west for the RedBud ATV National in Buchanan, Michigan in two weeks, July 30.

ProX ATV MX – Spring Creek – Round 8

By | AMA | No Comments

Millville, MN – Maxxis/Elka Suspension/Liquid Wrench’s Joel Hetrick made the first statement of the day earning the ATVriders.com Top Qualifier Award where he turned the fastest lap time during both the timed qualifying sessions. As the ATVMX pros lined up on the gate for the first moto Hetrick looked to continue his speed and take home a win.

When the gate dropped on Moto 1 Hetrick picked up right where he left off and found himself in a favorable position to earn the SSi Decals Holeshot Award. With a clear track in front of him Hetrick slowly started pulling away from the rest of the field.

Meanwhile, his biggest competition, Wienen, found himself stuck in the middle of the pack and had to make quick work to be a front-runner. Even though he made quickly passed majority of the field, Hetrick capitalized on the situation and had a large gap.

JB Racing/Root River Racing/Gold Speed Tires-backed Jeffrey Rastrelli attempted to take control of the lead from Hetrick where he ran in a podium position until a mechanical issue ultimately took him out of the race.

Rastrelli’s misfortune allowed Wienen to slide into second, but Hetrick would remain cool and confident to take the win. Wienen and Maxxis/Liquid Wrench/Elka Suspension/Honda’s David Haagsma followed in second and third.

Wienen showcased his toughness and resiliency in Moto 2 when he came out of the first turn with the lead and the SSi Decals Holeshot Award. Wienen’s veteran experience came into play when he immediately felt pressure from Hetrick. Wienen continued to push, but Hetrick would start to fade back around the halfway point of the race. A 2-1 moto score earned Wienen the overall win with Hetrick finishing in the runner-up spot (1-2).

“I had a solid day today,” said Wienen. “I had a not so good start in moto one and had to battle through the pack from an eighth place start. Overall everything felt good but I knew I needed to get a better start in the second moto. I was able to pull the holeshot and I had pressure from Hetrick for a few laps, but then started to click off some good laps and pull a nice gap until the finish. I have to thank my Wienen Motorsports Yamaha team backed by Maxxis, SSi Decals, Walsh Racecraft, 7240 Team and the rest of my support group for their efforts.”

Haagsma maintained the third place position throughout the entire second moto with a comfortable lead over Rastrelli in fourth. With two respectable motos Haagsma earned his second overall podium of the season with third. Root River Racing/Hoosier Tires/Rage ATV’s Josh Upperman (5-5) and Maxxis/Root River Racing/JB Racing’s Thomas Brown (4-7) round out the top five finishers at the Spring Creek ATVMX National.

The ProX ATVMX series moves to the Empire State in two weeks, July 16, for the Unadilla ATMX National in New Berlin, New York.

Amsoil GNCC – Snowshoe – Round 9

By | GNCC | No Comments

The 2016 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship, continued today, June 25, with the AMSOIL Snowshoe GNCC held at the popular Snowshoe Mountain Resort in West Virginia. “America’s toughest race” lived up to its nickname after an abundant amount of rain fell in the days prior to the race creating slick and muddy conditions for the world’s fastest off-road ATV racers.

With the unique live engine start modeled after the famed Blackwater 100 race, Maxxis/Fly Racing/HMF/Ye Olde Cycle Barn/Suzuki’s Chris Borich would find himself in a favorable position and lead the way into the woods. Once they checked through timing and scoring for the first time Fast Traxx/Wolf Racing’s Brian Wolf had taken over and was running in the lead position.

However, CST/LSR/Induction Solutions/DeRisi/SG/Tire Blocks’ Adam McGill would move into the lead by the conclusion of the second lap with N-Fab/Maxxis/AmPro Yamaha/Lonestar/MXP’s Walker Fowler on his back tires.

While following McGill, Fowler would get stuck where he dropped back to the sixth place position. This allowed JMR/ATVriders.com/DWT’s Jarrod McClure to slide into second. By the third lap, Coastal Racing/MSR/Maxxis’ Brycen Neal had swapped positions for second place.

Neal would have a quick sprint in the lead position during the white flag until McGill would recover and take back over the lead. McGill held the lead position throughout the last lap where he would see the checkered flag first and take the win in front of his hometown friends and family.

The 2016 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series continues in the fall, September 10 and 11, with the Parts Unlimited Unadilla GNCC at the popular Unadilla MX in New Berlin, New York.

Amsoil GNCC – Dunlop Tomahawk – Round 8

By | GNCC | No Comments

The 2016 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship, continued today in Odessa, New York with the Second Annual Dunlop Tomahawk GNCC. By the time the 1 p.m. Pro race kicked off the weather had turned around creating near perfect race conditions. At the conclusion of the two hour race it would be N-Fab/Maxxis/AmPro Yamaha/Lonestar/MXP’s Walker Fowler crossing the line first with a commanding lead.

Fowler quickly capitalized on the open track and began pulling away from the rest of the field and gaining valuable time. Once he checked through timing and scoring for the first time he already had a 27-second lead ahead of Borich who still remained in second.

Meanwhile, Borich would find himself in a battle with CST/LSR/Induction Solutions/DeRisi/SG/Tire Blocks’ Adam McGill. Borich would ultimately end up losing his back brakes on the first lap which created an added challenge for the six-time champion. Borich and McGill spent the entirety of the race swapping positions.

While Fowler would take the victory by almost two minutes, Borich would end up finishing an impressive second overall after racing more than half the race without rear brakes. McGill rounded out the overall podium in third.

“I really couldn’t get it together today,” said McGill. “I really just tried to make a go of it today and charge the whole race. I made a few mistakes and could just never recover from them. This track is hard on me in general just do to the fact that it doesn’t fit my style and I just never have good luck here.”

The 2016 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series continues with round nine on June 25 and 26 with the famed AMSOIL Snowshoe GNCC at the Snowshoe Mountain Resort in West Virginia.

ProX ATV MX – Monster Mountain – Round 6 – Natalie takes 3rd

By | AMA | No Comments

Tallassee, AL – JB Racing/Root River Racing/Gold Speed Tires’ Jeffrey Rastrelli was busy working his way up from a sixth place start where he was able to pass Musick and Maxxis/FLY Racing/Baldwin Motorsports’ John Natalie to take third in the first moto.

Maxxis/FLY Racing/Baldwin Motorsports’s John Natalie would jump out to the early lead and claim the SSi Decals Holeshot Award for the second moto. Natalie used the open track to his advantage where he would continue leading for the first few laps, while Wienen and Hetrick were engaging in their own battle in second and third.

“The track turned out great this weekend,” said Natalie. “I didn’t do so well in qualifying, but was able to make some adjustments to pull the holeshot in the second moto and come away with a third overall for the weekend.”

Wienen and Hetrick were able to pass Natalie on the fourth lap where they would eventually come in contact together as they entered the pro section of the race course. Wienen would end up spinning out due to the hit from Hetrick and flip over which allowed for Hetrick to move into the lead position and check out on the rest of the pro field. While Natalie would slide into second, Wienen would quickly recover to run in third and then make the pass back for second.

With a pair of 1-1 moto finishes Hetrick took home the Monster Mountain National win, followed by Wienen (2-2) and Natalie (4-3).

Amsoil GNCC – Wiseco John Penton – Round 7

By | GNCC | No Comments

The AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series presented by Maxxis, an AMA National Championship, continued today, May 28, in the Buckeye State with the 27th Annual Wiseco John Penton GNCC held at the popular Sunday Creek Raceway in Millfield, Ohio. After facing hot and humid conditions for the first time this season, it would be N-Fab/Maxxis/AmPro Yamaha/Lonestar/MXP’s Walker Fowler taking the overall win. Maxxis/Fly Racing/HMF/Ye Olde Cycle Barn/Suzuki’s Chris Borich and Coastal Racing/MSR/Maxxis’ Brycen Neal would battle it out until the very end to round out the overall podium in second and third.

CST/LSR/Induction Solutions/DeRisi/SG/Tire Blocks’ Adam McGill had moved into second at the conclusion of the first lap. While Fowler would maintain the lead, McGill would slowly start gaining on the defending champion throughout the first half of the race.

With Fowler and McGill off in the distance, N-Fab/Maxxis/AmPro Yamaha/Lonestar/MXP’s Cole Richardson was in the mix for third with Neal and Borich. The three would continue the close racing throughout the entire two-hour race.

Once Fowler took the white flag he found himself being pushed by McGill who was just a few seconds behind. McGill would end up getting stuck around the three mile marker where Fowler would lead the way to the finish claiming his fourth win of the season.

“I ended up getting caught up with a lapper and had to go back down the hill in order to try and get back up the hill climb,” said McGill. “Once I got to the bottom my quad wouldn’t start back and a fan was able to lend a hand and help me get it started again.”

Unfortunately Richardson would end up suffering from a mechanical issue on the last lap ultimately taking him out of a podium contention where he would end up finishing ninth in XC1 Pro and 17th overall.

While Fowler would cross the finish line first, Borich and Neal would continue the fight, but now for second and third with McGill and Richardson out of the race. Once they hit the famed Sunday Creek Motocross track, the two would exchange positions back and forth, with Borich taking the last double jump with an extra boost to cross the line in second with Neal following in third overall.

McGill would end up rebounding to finish just off the podium in fourth. Show Hauler/Canyon Motorsports/GBC’s Landon Wolfe landed his first top-five finish of the season in fifth, with Precision/Axis/Maxxis-backed Jay Shadron having an equally impressive ride in sixth.

The 2016 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series continues with round eight on June 11 and 12 with the Dunlop Tomahawk GNCC at the Seneca Highland in Odessa, New York.

Amsoil GNCC – Limestone 100 – Round 6

By | GNCC | No Comments

Fowler would lead throughout the second lap, but would quickly begin to feel the pressure from Borich. While the battle for the lead was shaping up, McGill was busy working his way up from a ninth place start. By the second lap McGill found himself in the mix for the lead with Fowler and Borich. As the race wore on, Borich would finally work his way around the defending champion Fowler as he lead the pack.

Once the white flag came out, the entire XC1 field stepped up their game. With multiple lead changes between Fowler, Borich and McGill the racing action was nothing short of exciting. Neal was sitting just a few seconds behind in fourth. As the top three came through the pro pits for the last time it would be Borich and McGill battling it out for the top spot with Fowler right behind them. Borich would end up heading into a turn too fast and clipping the berm, ultimately flipping him off the quad. McGill saw the open rut and capitalized on Borich’s mistake taking the inside line and the overall win.

“I didn’t actually lead the race until the last lap,” said McGill. “I just had to ride a smart race and my bike setup was just perfect from the tires to the motor. Once Chris’ back end picked up I saw the inside line and just drove it through for the win.”

ProX ATV MX – Ironman Raceway – Round 4 – Natalie takes 9th

By | AMA | No Comments

Crawfordsville, IN – Hetrick made quick work and moved into second on the second lap, with Upperman remaining in third. Perhaps one of the best battles of the race was for the fourth place position between Rastrelli, Maxxis/Root River Racing/JB Racing’s Thomas Brown and Maxxis/FLY Racing/Baldwin Motorsports’ John Natalie. The three racers continued to switch places throughout the latter half of the race.

Wienen would end up seeing the checkered flag first followed by Hetrick and Upperman. With the battle for fourth winding down with a couple of laps remaining it was Rastrelli taking the position followed by Natalie in fifth and Brown in sixth.

Unfortunately both Brown and Natalie would have issues ultimately taking them out of the second moto where they would finish eighth and ninth overall.
